Questions about GL.inet GL-MT3000

Hi everyone,
I work remotely in the USA and needed a travel router for my trip to Costa Rica next month. I bought the GL.inet GL Beryl AX3000 (Model is GL-MT3000) and I am needing help to set it up.

I have already set up the OpenVPN client on the device to my ExpressVPN account, and when I check the IP address on my computer connected to the router the IP address does match the IP & location from the client. Is this all I need to do? if there is more, can someone please tell me?
I leave in 3 weeks for my trip and I want to make sure everything is set up correctly & that I will for sure be able to work on my work laptop while abroad.

Thanks in advance!

are you running openwrt or gl.inet's "openwrt" ?

Honestly, I am not sure. Am I supposed to be? In my manual they listed this site to come use the forum for additional help.

I am very new to this so I am not sure what a openwrt is, I’m sorry.

if you just unpacked it, then you're running the gl.inet firmware, and they should have directed you to their own forum, not here.
if you bought it used, and it already came with out firmware preinstalled (not very likely), we can assist you.

feel free to post a screen shot if your webUI, and we'll tell you what you're running.

The steps I took exactly were this:

  1. Logged into admin set for the Travel Router after creating password.
  2. Connected Travel router to my home ISP.
  3. Set up OpenVPN client on the router after adding configuration file given from my vpn client.
  4. Connected to the vpn client.
  5. Searched IP address to see if it matched.

But I’m sure there has to be more I need to do to make sure the router reflects an USA IP address while I am abroad & that it will work properly.

It is out the box, they sent me 2 links for set up but it only mentions how to set up a openVPN client and WireGuard client. I just feel like there is more to it… where do I find the webUI? I’m so sorry to ask you.

webUI is the user interface, but based on your description, i'm pretty sure you're not running openwrt, but the gl.inet firmware.

you should seek assistance at their forum.

You could also use the Official Image of OpenWrt by updating from the Gl.iNet firmware GUI to OpenWrt and continue your thread here for assistance. The firmware update instructions can be found in the wiki for your supported device here.

Thanks so much!

keep in mind the gl.inet user interface is extremely user friendly, openwrt not that much (in comparison), if you don't know what you're doing
