Which branch is preferred for the latest updates?

Previously for the mx4300, the 6.11 branch and the non-6.11 branch were exactly the same, but now they seem to be different now.

Or is the 6.11 branch for beta updates and eventually the non-6.11 branch gets synced with it?

Hey Folks,

I've made a bunch of updates across the nss_packages and openwrt-ipq repositories.

Updates:

  • rx-gro-list (aka Fraglist GRO) is now automatically disabled by the qca-nss-ecm init script on boot and anytime the interface is reloaded. You no longer need to manually remove any kernel patches. This allows you to still benefit from GRO for WireGuard without completely disabling it, fixing issues with DHCP, DNS, and slow WireGuard speeds—basically anything using UDP.

  • Added a new diagnostic tool to the mac80211 package for gathering key information like branch, NSS firmware, ath11k version, etc. This addresses the most common questions I get when people post issues:

  • Set ath11k-firmware to 2.9.0.1 across all branches, as version 2.12 has been causing issues for many users.
  • Bumped the mac80211 6.11 branches to 6.11.2.

If everything goes smoothly over the next few days, I'll merge everything back into the qualcommax-6.x-nss-wifi branch. I'll also move the existing mac80211 6.9.9 branch (currently qualcommax-6.x-nss-wifi) to qualcommax-6.x-nss-wifi-6.9.

I'm not sure of the timeline for the MX4300 getting merged upstream, but I'll likely merge it into qualcommax-6.x-nss-wifi at the same time as the mac80211 6.11 update. Since it doesn't introduce any significant changes for current devices, it should be fine for everyone.

Hi all,

After some performance and stability issues with stock OpenWRT I thought I'd try the NSS branch.
I've had bigger issues with it since the day I installed it, with frequent random crashes. (not to mention the VLAN filtering issue, it's sad this is broken).
I gathered some info that might help with troubleshooting.

I'm running this device as an Access Point/switch, with no routing, do I have too many NSS packages for my use case? Unfortunately, there's not much information regarding each package's purpose, advantages and disadvantages, if someone can explain that to me I can help with that :smile:
If you need anything else to troubleshoot this let me know.

PS: while writing this the router crashed 8 times :upside_down_face:

And removing

CONFIG_KERNEL_SKB_FIXED_SIZE_2K=y

Also verify if SKB_RECYCLER is enabled. That will help with memory issues without having to mess with WiFi frames.

Not sure what's been happening with AX3600 lately. Even staying on 6.9.9 seems I see folks reporting issues with ath11k_dp_rx_process_mon_status+0xde0/0x15c8 in OOPS output. Are you able to parse the message through gdb to grab the lines it's occurring in?

When you say verify if SKB_RECYCLER is enabled you mean in the build options or in the running system itself?

How do I do this? I don't have that utiulity in the router, should I copy the module to the computer and run it? never done this before

News about this, it seems to be working now, I cleaned my build reflashed the system and it worked.

This has been bugging me for over a week but I got so bogged down trying to get logs with ramoops, mtdoops, mtdpstore and whatever that I didn't get to play with the settings. It is possible that it is more a matter of higher end channels Vs lower end channels than automatic Vs manual. I chose channel 60 manually because that's what my router had selected automatically and it still crashed. Channel 36 doesn't. Maybe someone with UART access can select those channels and capture the log if it crashes. I have an MX4200v2 by the way.

EDIT: this problem is not manifesting on vanilla OpenWRT and it was introduced by changes after 27 Sep. I have a copy of qualcommax-6.x-nss-wifi on that date and builds from that source work. After that, they all have that problem.

Do you happen to have the commit for that release. I tend to push multiple times a day. I've not had much luck using auto channels tbh, I tend to make all mine static. My mesh radios are all 161, and secondary 5G are a mix of 48 and 64.

Curious, are these interfaces masked manually, or are you seeing them show up as asterisks too?

Nope, I didn't quote it myself :sweat_smile:

And I got the crash again with the same kernel panic when I was connecting a device to the second VAP.
I have two VAPs in each radio, the main wireless and the guest wireless, and now that I have devices connected to the guest it is crashing constantly.

Is there anything I can provide to help? I have a compiled version from today/yesterday, about 14 hours ago :smile:
