On my main router I did use the usual OpenWRT VLAN setup, which is called VLAN filtering in the LuCI UI but it does create 802.1q devices, so I am a bit confused about the terms.

With VLAN filtering it's done at the physical switch port level. 8021q is a software based method of managing VLAN tags. IPQ807x doesn't have standard DSA architecture and uses 8021q, but with NSS it's able to offload 8021q traffic.

AP is connected via lan port 1 to router's lan port 2? You wouldn't specify wan in your AP config, since it's not actually used. You can simplify it to this.

NOTE: You can just use the syntax port_number.vlan_id under list ports. netifd will know to create a 8021q device. You only need to lay out the full config if you want to change mac address or other non-default settings.

2 APs connects to the router's lan port 2 and 3 through their wan port, that's why I have wan.20 for IoT and wan.99 for main network on the APs, and yes I do have the firewall zone for IoT => wan.

gotcha, in that case the AP configs look fine. Issue is on the router end, which I can't really help with as I'm using IPQ807x for all my rouer/APs.

It is really weird that devices connect to the AP through wire doesn't have the issue, while devices connect to the AP through WiFi can't connect to other devices, which feels like something wrong on the AP side rather than on the router side, but I might be wrong.

isnt this the issue of cleint isolation?
the issue about unintended isolation of wireless clients with the NSS builds are multiply reported in this topic. i have yet to find an understnading of the reason why it is not always a problem or not. it thus follows that a consistent fix for the problem has not been reported/

Correct, it's still being done through the CPU. The only DSA supported boards from Qualcomm that can use DSA are IPQ4019/IPQ806x (very old) and newer IPQ95xx (very limited support just merged in), IPQ53xx (DSA but not supported at all in openwrt).

finally i found that the source of my problems within newer kernels was skb_recycler,
even disabling it does not solve it

I decided to get rid of it completely

deleted 0981-1-qca-skb_recycler-support.patch, skb_recycler.init

almost perfect no out of memory issue and stable memory usage
without luci (uhttpd service)

I rebuilt the package and reinstalled the mac80211 package from LuCI, but DHCP is still not obtained on wwan, nor are relay packets passing through. I'm unsure if this procedure is correct.

I rebuilt the entire firmware and reinstalled the sysupgrade image, and now I confirm that DHCP works on the wwan interface and relayd works fine also!
I'll continue testing and verifying if everything is functioning as expected.

This version include NSS offload for WiFi

I am redo the repos over the latest commit from OpenWRT.

Changelog (include upstream of OpenWRT):

Updated kernel and NSS software to version 6.6.83.
Fixed bug when updating packages from LUCI (apk-tools).
Changed “ip-tiny” package to “ip-full”, to match “tc-full” package.
Added the latest changes developed by qosmio for NSS.
WARNING: (IN CASE YOU USE THEM). The following services are disabled on first startup: mwan3, sqm, mesh11sd (MESH build) and you have to re-enable them from: Luci -> System -> Startup

Notes:

Compilation is performed with the following limits for ath11k (512M) and NSS (NSS_MEM_PROFILE_HIGH) and pbuf set to auto by default.
The build is compiled with GCC 13.3.
The default TCP congestion protocol is CUBIC.
By default, the radio0 (IoT) is off (you can enable in LUCI) and the radio 1 (2.4 GHz) y 2 (5 GHz) is on.
The default country code for the WiFi is USA to avoid problems with 160 MHZ because it does not work if it does not have a specified country code.

used to be skb was better but within newer kernels it's really bad
but i guess bigger part of issues caused by isp but non-nss builds much more better

STA/Relayd is working well so far. The AP (5950AX12) and STA/Relayd (5950AX12) are both operating in 160MHz/4T4R mode, achieving around 3Gbps, with the CPU almost idling. It looks like NSS is offloading traffic efficiently.

I built the firmware with the qca_nss_tunipip6 module to check the throughput of the v6 tunnel (ds-lite), but it seems that packets are being processed by the CPU instead of being offloaded.

I used to be able to do so up until about a month or so ago. I am still able to compile @qosmio custom builds without any issues. I only add a few additional packages to your standard config.buildinfo file.

Hi @directnupe,

Instead of using “config.buildinfo”, you can use the “.full_config” which is the equivalent to “.config” that I use to generate the build, it is uploaded on purpose with the intention of being as transparent as possible to the users of my fork

Just rename that file to “.config” and run "make menuconfig" and you will be able to customize the build.
