Exactly... Do you have the mbn custom firmware flashed or just the bootcmd with the official firmware.

EDIT: For what it is worth... I flashed a build from a nss repo that did not have nss build.. in fact it was pretty much just regular openwrt from build using that repo... It still did not bring up the 10g-1 port. Looks like this is not NSS related but something in the nss repos is causing this behavior.

I also am now going to flash mbn and bootcmd so that nss builds work and use that until there is a fix.

Probably a commit or patch that was applied to the NSS repo and worked with MBN and U-Boot.
We have a starting point from the commit that introduced support for the kernel to load the AQR 10G FW only a month ago.
I suppose more testing is needed.

On QNAP stock firmware after unpacking there is a file uploadfm inside 10G_FW directory. The content is.

I just built the repo setting the make menuconfig settings to qnap 301w and added only luci, ddns stuff and nano-full.

Actually there are three commits which changed the ipq8072-301w.dts file. It is changed/adapted for the NSS builds too.
Did you try to load the firmware from userspace. Although it was reported as unsuccessful.

I'm gonna guess that maybe it is this https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/pull/14484/commits/845caa8d4688bf0901f3998fdc6ed3a75d2ce2d7 commit and that our kernel isn't using the correct gpios but I really have no idea as I'm not a kernel dev.

I don't know what are these reset GPIO-s and why they were reversed but hopefully someone can shed more light on this issue and still it's strange that it works with MBN but not with QNAP stock FW that is NSS enabled too. Probably QNAP changed/customized something in their firmware to work with NSS. Maybe that is the reason reset GPIO-s were reversed for the regular OpenWrt build.
The changes to the ipq8072-301w.dts file maybe crucial for the issue on NSS builds.
And obviously QNAP had a patch for the AQR firmware to be loaded from kernel (as it is in stock firmware) before that became available in OpenWrt too.

I just compiled vanilla github openwrt/openwrt and saved the config (flashed and it works just no nss so slow speed)... I also just cloned github qosmio/openwrt-ipq compiling now with the exact same config, will flash and report back with the results. IF it works I will try to add nss to troubleshoot.

UPDATE: same config on clean openwrt git works and is broken on openwrt-ipq

Why don't you try to revert just the above GPIO-s commit?
Simply not adding NSS modules via make menuconfig, doesn't mean that all the patches that were applied to the NSS repo are not in effect. They modified other files too, not only dts file.
If you decide to revert that commit be prepared that both 10G may stop working completely when you flash the firmware.

I tried reverting the patch and it had absolutely no effect good nor bad. So that is not the problem.

Well, in this case the issue will definitely be somewhere here.

@l33tlinuxh4x0r could you try disabling NSS completely on the 301w target? Basically, comment out line 9 in target/linux/qualcommax/files/arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/ipq8072-301w.dts to remove the NSS entries from the DTS.

This is non nss build btw, you are cloning the master git. Not the NSS branch. You need to specify which branch to get

Is not recommended. If you building using multi core it's recommended to use this command.

make -j $(nproc) download world

make download will pre-download all source code for all dependencies, this will enable multi core compilation to succeed, without it is is very likely to fail.

Yes, I was just about to post the results. Even with NSS disabled in the dts and config the 10g-1 port doesn't get an IP. What are we missing?

I'm building using your config right now. What do you think? do you find any difference than previous one? I enable the pbuf to 512mb because I use torrent.
