Podman on 23.05.2 nanopi r4s needs custom kernel, bug?

As stated in the topic, I just found out the hard way that podman only works with a custom kernel.

Is this considered a bug?

Aka, should I open an issue on GitHub? And work towards a pull-request to add the needed kernel settings?

Or is this expected behaviour?
And I should add a warning to the Wiki well, especially this guide

Exactly. You can open an issue then a pr

So you are sure it's supposed to work with the default kernel and this is a bug?

Openwrt uses highly customised kernels for embedded devices with small flash (like 8mb) so not all options like cgroups are enabled.
So you need to open a pr for your exact architecture where disk/flash space is not an issue
