Dear OpenWRT Developers,
My old TPLink appears to be out-of-function very soon.
So, I am looking for a new ASUS wireless router. It seems that this model is supported by OpenWRT.
Please confirm. Thanks for your attention.

Nice.
Is there any unsupported minor version of ASUS RT-AX52?
If there's nothing on Asus' site, no.
Hello Frollic,
Thanks for your guide.
So, I must not update the ASUS's firmware on RT-AX52 in order to install OpenWRT firmware on this router. Is it the case?
You should always be able to downgrade again, unless Asus implemented some kind of restrictions.
But it never hurts to run as old stock firmware as possible.
Nice.
I have ordered one ASUS RT-AX52 yesterday.
Thanks for everyone's valuable opinions.
I will be the first time to own my router OS, no more backdoor as zombie when there is cyber attack war. ![]()
I will also set up my own IPSec VPN.
I do hire public VPN services but many of them are actually run by China government.
I received my ASUS RT-AX52 yesterday for US$45.
I have its default set up right now.
Believe it or not. It is much faster than my old TP-Link Archer over LAN cable. I don't know the reason but it is my feeling.
Perhaps, TP-Link do have backdoors on their commercial routers. It is my guess only.
3 months later, I will burn OpenWRT firmware to my new RT-AX52 after it shows no hardware issue. ![]()
