It seems that for some there is a problem with the drivers

You could try changing the ath10k-ct firmware/drivers to ath10k (non-ct) and see how that works.

The device is already using the non-ct drivers. I doubt that this is involved in the issue anyway, this is not related to wifi. BTW I plan to switch to ct drivers for a better stability while using WDS wifi.

imo there's not much reason to use the CT driver/firmware on ipq40xx
connection rates are reported correctly, so you might as well use the upstream/default and get the potential mesh support

I have a couple of devices running these builds and am wondering if I will lose anything by updating them to stock openwrt?

They are not external facing, I just use them as wifi clients bridged to ethernet, so that ethernet only devices can connect to the wifi network using them and it minimises wifi traffic, and they are working well for that.

So security is not really an issue, but it would still be nice to update them to latest if I will not lose performance by doing so.

On my Linksys EA8300 I switch over to the stock OpenWrt 23.05.5 a few months ago. It has been operating as my main router. It is stable, I dont experience any serious performance or stability issues. The only exception is the USB port: any time I re-connect an LTE dongle the USB port goes down, and the only option to revive it to reboot the router.

Worth mentioning that I live in a flat made of bricks, signal strength on both bands are OK for the daily work.

I get Internet acces on a DOCSIS cable connection, 500/22 Mbps. On ethernet I can fully use this bandwidth. On 2.4Ghz I measured ~70/22 Mbps, on 5GHz I get ~400/22 Mbps download/upload speed. Tested against https://fast.com. (Standing 2-3 meters from the router, no walls.)

I installed and configured irqbalance app, but did no other tweaks (as I remember).

Thanks for the reply. So it sounds that you get about 400mbps across the network in general? This is pretty good. Additionally I don't need 2.4GHz. I will give it a try at some point.

@sshel I am curious to know when you can post the latest version (24.10.5) of MR9000 firmware on your site?

Anyone ever made a optimized build for RBR50V1?
it's also an ipq40xx device

Well, I can use Drive as suggested but then we'll need to install the packages manually by downloading them and using the shell.

But that gives me an idea: maybe I can use github instead. I think that it can work. I'll do an experiment and, if it works, I can update my links.

I've been using this build and the patches for years and for several targets now, and it's stable and mature at this point.
