OpenWrt x86 appliance use of the LAN Bridge (br-lan)

Is it more efficient for an Intel x86 appliance (Protectli VP2420) to use an external switch for the lan instead of the internal (br-lan) software bridge?

I ask, because with Intel x86 devices, each ethernet port is independent, as opposed to ARM where all the ethernet ports internally are connected as a switch, so for an x86 appliance, OpenWrt will have to build a software bridge with all the Ethernet ports, that will have a CPU cost, vs using an external hardware switch (Netgear GS108Ev3), they are cheap and efficient, thoughts? Thanks

The CPU cost is there but it is small. It would be barely noticeable for a few ports at 1 Gb speed.
