openWRT WDS client issue with routing

Hi,

I recently installed openWRT on an old FritzBox 3370 to use the device as an WiFi-Ethernet bridge to bring some devices that are in a location without an ethernet connection into the homenet. The 3370 is connected to a 7490 (running FritzOS) via WiFi as WDS client as described here https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/wifi/wifiextenders/wds. DNS, gateway, STP and so on have been set and all firewall rules deleted and default set to accept.

Devices connected to the 3370 via ethernet can reach the internet and devices connected to the 7490. However devices connected to the 7490 can not reach devices connected to the 3370.

When I ping a device on the 7490 from a device on the 3370, the 7490-device can reach the 3370-device for a short while, but then the connection is lost again.

Please let me know if I should provide any further information and thanks a lot for help!

WDS/ 4addr hard-requires both WDS-AP and WDS-client to run a mac80211 based wireless driver (effectively := as both running OpenWrt), Fritz!OS does not (proprietary wireless drivers without 4addr capability).

That could be a bit misleading for some.
It would be better to say:

For anybody with a similar problem who finds this thread, you will find that the Relayd method works, as an alternative to WDS, with a stock FritzBox as the main router.
