OpenWrt support for Xiaomi AX3000T

Purchased from small shops on shopping platforms that specialize in selling Chinese-version Xiaomi products.

Then look for the CMCC RAX3000M or RAX3000Me. They're much better than the Xiaomi, even in terms of design, not to mention the hardware. And they're much cheaper. They have 512MB of memory, and there are versions with USB 3.0, something Xiaomi doesn't even have plans for.

Hello everyone,

I am using a Xiaomi AX3000T with the latest OpenWrt 24.10.3 and have noticed a strange anomaly that I cannot find a solution for.

My setup:

The router runs in repeater mode. It connects to my main FRITZ!Box via 5 GHz Wi-Fi (wwan2) and thus provides Internet access for its own LAN and Wi-Fi clients.

The problem:

The download speeds are perfect on all devices (both LAN and Wi-Fi) and reach the maximum. However, there is a massive discrepancy when uploading:

Clients on the WLAN: Achieve the full 40 Mbps upload speed.
Clients on the LAN cable: Are throttled to only ~2.5 Mbps upload speed.
What I have already tried unsuccessfully:
Replaced the LAN cable.
Tried all LAN ports on the router.

Checked the connection speed: According to the log, the link between the PC and the router is correctly negotiated at 1 Gbit/s full duplex. So the problem is not with the physical connection.

Activated software and hardware flow offloading.

Deactivated packet steering.

Ensured that no SQM / QoS is active.

Thank you very much for your help!

Where can I purchase it?

At least in China. That makes sense, right? Used ones are generally very cheap. New ones are available in various models, but the key is to choose wisely and choose one with USB or a 64GB SSD if you need one. It's also not very expensive. Since this is a provider router and is given to the subscriber for free, the prices vary from cheap to sky-high.

Summary

Where can I buy that online?

I'm searching for sellers through Google. I have no idea where you can do the same. Naturally, I'm not located in China, so we're on equal terms. Find the most cost-effective method and price for you and your country. That's not the topic of this thread. I recommended a person who couldn't find the Xiaomi model he needed in his country. This model is no longer compatible with OpenWRT firmware. There's also the one I suggested, and others. Its price, including shipping to my country, is less than or equal to the Xiaomi AX3000T. But the model I suggested has some advantages. 1. More RAM. 2. Some models have USB 3.0. 3. Some models have 64 GB of flash memory. For me, that's more than enough. If I were to consider a more expensive and high-quality model, I personally currently use the GL.iNet GL-MT6000 because it has two 2.5 Gbps ports. My provider offers plans up to 5 Gbps. That's relevant for me.

Slow LAN Upload was Caused by Windows Update KB5065789

Hello everyone,

This is the final update to my long and complex troubleshooting thread regarding extremely slow LAN upload speeds. The problem has been definitively solved, and I want to share the solution to help others.

The final culprit was NOT OpenWrt. It was a specific Windows 11 Update.

The Cause

The issue was caused by the Windows 11 Cumulative Update Preview: KB5065789.
After a complete reinstallation of Windows 11, my LAN upload speed was back to the full 40 Mbps. However, the problem reappeared shortly after. I checked my update history and discovered that this preview update had been automatically installed right when the issue started again.

The Solution

The fix is simple:
Go to Settings -> Windows Update -> Update History.
Scroll down and click on "Uninstall updates".
Find the update named KB5065789 in the list, select it, and click "Uninstall".
Reboot your PC.

2 posts were split to a new topic: Connection stability issues with AX3000T used as an AP

Hello, I installed OpenWRT 24.10.03 on my Xiaomi AX3000T RD23 device, but my Wi-Fi speed does not exceed 600 Mbps. My test device is Asus Zephyrus G14 and I have a Mediatek MT7922 Wi-Fi card. What settings should I make on the router to get speeds of 1000 Mbps or close to it in OpenWRT?

Not all that realistic to expect from wifi 6 (2x2 HE80) in practice (around 700 MBit/s +/- might be, if you're lucky), wifi 7 with MLO 5+6 would be necessary for that.

Sorry for asking… but i’m using a firmware from @remittor from june on this year and now i purshed another AX3000T with Airoha AN8855 and don’t know for sure if i use the remittor release or oficial release or if the X-WRT (v.25.01) is compatible with it.
someone can give me a quick and dirt follow up with the changes from june to right now?

X-WRT is a different project. Feel free to ask them.

Agree with @slh .

I have AX300T as an AP about 3/4 metres direct line of sight from Asus laptop with MT7921 (connected via ethernet to main router) and was normally getting 6-650 and very occasionally a little bit more depending on the speed test. Normal was just above 600.

Hi guys, I have the Xiaomi AX3000T with OpenWrt firmware. Unfortunately, my WAN speed is only 100 Mbps, and I can't utilize the full internet performance. How do I get the WAN to 1 Gbps?

Check your cable (and the ports for any debris or bent pins). You might swap the cable for one that is known to work properly at 1G speeds. Also check the device at the other end (i.e. your upstream) to make sure it is operating correctly and is capable of 1G.

thx i try it.

I’ve got the Airoha AN8855 variant and saw the note about Airoha AN8855 switch and/or FORESEE SPI NAND only working properly with the snapshot U-Boot loader.
Do you know which patch added support for that, and whether it’s already merged in 24.10.4?

This one https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/pull/19330 and as it’s still open, no, it’s not in 24.10.4
