OpenWrt support for DIR-853 A4

Thanks SLH for your input, I just check DB9 cable with digital multimeter for DC voltages but there are no voltages found in pin 2 and 3. so might be I did do any wrong with dir-853 yet... for now I just deployed this router in its place again and hopefully, I will test it again in future after testing DB9 and ttl adopter.
Thank you all for your great support.
Best Regards

could you pls elaborate on step # 3
how do i do sys upgrade which option do i have to chose to finish step 3.

Am new to this , appreciate your help.

@kar200 when are we going to have the A4 firmware listed in the firmware selector DL section?

Is that in the download section of openwrt? I don't know if it will ever be listed there.

Someone who owns the device and happy to test needs to open a pull request. Unfortunately I do not own the device so I won't be able to do so.

Since the hardware seems identical on both devices this was just to sort of convert the A4 to A3 openwrt and then you could use the A3 firmware for updates from the official download section

can i get your email pls

I want Dlink Dir-853 A4 Firmware any one help

This model is not supported by OpenWrt. The A3, and R1 version are supported by the latest stable release, and the A1 is supported in snapshot only. But there is no support for the A4.

Thanks to @kar200, @Lucky1 and MianHannan.
Successfully installed OpenWrt in D Link DIR 853 A4, followed by updating with latest firmware from openwrt website.
Seems most of things working fine but faced some problem, worth sharing it.
1-Software (ipk) section was not updating, tried many ways, finally >>Join Network: Wireless Scan>> connected with wifi >> it worked>> probably some DHCP issue, but cloud not figure out.
-SQM is working fine
-Ad guard is working well
2- After one reset, it was inaccessible through web ui( 192.168.1.1), updated through putty>> got fixed.
3-radio0 and radio1 both are 5.180 GHz. and 2.4 is not visible, on network scan radio0 scans both 2.4 & 5.1, bit weird. (tried to change Mode, Channel Width) if any fix kindly let me know.

  • Overall stable.

my device is not connecting to pppoe any solution firmware ver. ET853PNP-2.01-B01D05

It appears you are using firmware that is not from the official OpenWrt project.

When using forks/offshoots/vendor-specific builds that are "based on OpenWrt", there may be many differences compared to the official versions (hosted by OpenWrt.org). Some of these customizations may fundamentally change the way that OpenWrt works. You might need help from people with specific/specialized knowledge about the firmware you are using, so it is possible that advice you get here may not be useful.

You may find that the best options are:

  1. Install an official version of OpenWrt, if your device is supported (see https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org).
  2. Ask for help from the maintainer(s) or user community of the specific firmware that you are using.
  3. Provide the source code for the firmware so that users on this forum can understand how your firmware works (OpenWrt forum users are volunteers, so somebody might look at the code if they have time and are interested in your issue).

If you believe that this specific issue is common to generic/official OpenWrt and/or the maintainers of your build have indicated as such, please feel free to clarify.

2.4 is working. Need to to select the correct band

Just trying to wrap up what's needed here some questions ?
1 is the hardware 100% the same as the DIR-853-A3 even USB ports LED's if any ?
2 what was the header in the OEM firmware has it got DIR-853-A4 in the OEM header ?
3 Q2 may answer this but did we need a new header with A4 in it ?
I replied this to MianHannan hoping he an look into his MTD4 file with a hex editor for the OEM header
