OpenWrt Router Tip

Good morning everyone,
I have a TP-Link brand Access Point model "Archer C6 Gigabit Router Wi-Fi Dual Band AC1200 Wireless", on this I have installed OpenWrt and configured my VPN, in my case Cyberghost but NordVPN and similar are also fine and I have no problems with sort of, okay it's fast and it does the job but ALL traffic goes to the VPN.
For logistical reasons, however, I would like to replace it with another model c but I would like this one to have these characteristics:

  • could have 2 wireless lines, a VPN and a normal one;
  • possibility of configuring the Ethernet ports, what do I know about 1 being the VPN and the others being normal ISP traffic.

Is this possible?
Can you recommend a model with enough memory to use "policy based routing"
Thank you so much

depends on where you live.

EU and UK : Zyxel T-56
IT: WindTre EX5601
Global: GL-MT6000

of repurpose the C6 as AP, get some x86 for VPN, etc.

Do you have 8MB or 16MB version? (show/check ubus call system board)
128MB memory should be a lot for PBR with dozen VPN+AP subnets.

You can add extra Wi-Fi SSID for normal traffic and an Ethernet port
just need to attach them to the correct interface
try adding another Wi-Fi channel to LAN as I think VPN would be using a tap interface
should all work with current router

Hi,
n this model I can installa OpenWRT???

HI,
I thik I buy this router. Con I install openwrt and it has enough memory to use "policy based routing"?

Check glinet too.

Your limitation is flash i.e permanent memory, known as hard disk in a pc, where you are trying to install VPN software and it leaves no place for pbr.

policy based routing doesn't require a lot of disk, the VPN will kill your router's performance though.

get the T-56 - https://wifilinks.nl/products/zyxel-t-56-modem-odido-dual-band-wireless-ax6000-vdsl2-2-5g-ethernet-iad.

T-56 is supported (so is the EX5601), it'll get you 1GB RAM, 400MB flash, two 2.5GbE ports + 1GbE ports.

I've one of this, it was give me from my ex ISP Wind3 Italy. It's easy configure openWrt on this device?

read the wiki page in the link provided ?
(it's not, but it'll cost you 10€ to get the USB TTL required)

Where I can buy it?

https://www.amazon.it/dp/B08T24NML9/, there are probably cheaper ones, if you look harder.
I didn't.
