Is there an owner of GL-MT6000 who buys OpenWrt ONE and replaces the GL-MT6000 with it? Isn't GL-MT6000 a bit more powerful?
How do the two devices compare? I would very much like to support the OpenWrt project, but I recently bought the GL-MT6000 and don't know whether it makes sense to buy hardware again.
GL-MT6000 has the faster/ more capable SOC and an onboard managed switch.
One has externally accessible usb2serial console access, an M.2 PCIe 2.0 x1 slot, a MikroBUS socket with I2C/ SPI and more, as well as a battery backed RTC (which could be very handy for establishing VPN client connections on boot).
OpenWrt One is more meant to be an experimental device than a normal router.
By itself OpenWrt ONE has only little to do with the OpenWrt project itself. It is a separate project of some core developers. It is targeting to be a demonstration of certain features (hard-to-brick etc.) instead of being a normal home router.
Instead of going insane with specifications, we decided to include some nice features we believe all OpenWrt supported platforms should have (e.g. being almost unbrickable with multiple recovery options, hassle-free system console access, on-board RTC with battery backup etc.).
In terms of performance, OpenWrt One is very close to GL-MT3000 because they share the same SoC. GL-MT6000 is almost x2 in terms of performance, but 50% higher in price. If I was you, I would keep GL-MT6000 as is.
