OpenWRT One - Kernel Panic / System Crash during Video Streaming (Ver. 25.12.2)

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing recurring system crashes (possibly kernel panics) with my OpenWRT One running OpenWRT 25.12.2.

The Issue:
The router freezes completely and requires a hard reboot. This happens exclusively during high-bandwidth tasks, specifically while streaming TV/Video content. This has happened three times now.

My Setup:

Hardware: OpenWRT One

Version: 25.12.2

ISP: Fiber connection (GPON) via TMT/Kabel Baumann

Connected Devices: Mix of Android, iPad, and Fedora Workstation.

What I've tried so far:

Checked logread, but no entries persist after the crash.

    Request:

What is the best way to debug this on the OpenWRT One? Since this board has an integrated console port, should I keep a serial log running to catch the trace? Are there any known issues with the MT7981B drivers in this specific build regarding multicast or heavy streaming?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You can:

  • connect using SSH via another device
  • run logread -f
  • repeat the streaming that caused the crash

You should get a log trace of the error.

Can you confirm what you are using for power?

Remove the formatting, to make the message readable..?

On this specific hardware, because it is so easy and increases the chances for a meaningful backtrace, I would connect to the USB serial console directly, instead of ssh.

Hi,

i use a USB-C-Adapter (it comes with the OpenWRT One Router).
