OpenWRT One front button "suddenly" seen as always-on

Yesterday my OpenWRT One got unexpectedly unplugged, and I spent quite some time understanding what followed. To make it short, u-boot's button front returns on all the time, which naturally triggers booting in recovery mode.
Multimeter shows me the button seems to actually work as expected (three pins shorted together, and the 4th pin shorted only when the button is pressed). Yet button front gets a different information.
This is with the 24.10.5 I flashed during the investigation before realizing what the issue was, but that's all consistent with the behaviour I had with a previous 24.10 initially.

I would suspect u-boot to read the wrong info, if it had happened right after a reflash, but it had worked for several months and several reboots before suddenly failing. Any idea what to look at?

For now I've neutralized the button-checking macro as a workaround
