OpenWrt One - celebrating 20 years of OpenWrt

If it will indeed be available for ~€100 I will order one. It looks like a very nice device.
As always, there are wishes though: additional lan ports and an additional usb port, or the option to include them would be very nice.

Happy Birthday OpenWRT!

Would really like to see 4+ Ethernet ports; can be used as router, ap, extender, bridge.

Best wishes with the project!

Looks awesome!

If I might make a remark, PD 12V is not a standard PDO defined in the USB-PD spec, so few chargers will support it. 15V is in the spec and is much more widely supported.

Everything else looks great, hopefully you can hit that $100 price point

Besides the 2.5 GbE + 1 GbE, which I prefer and find more useful 2x2.5GbE. I have two questions:

  • Does it support the DFS channels?
  • is it possible a cheaper version without Wi Fi? So you can use other existent APs and save the money if you aren't going to use Wi Fi (even more if this router doesn't support DFS channels)

If you read the spec sheet it does say DFS

Oops, I really sorry, I omitted (and for some reason using ctrl + f of the browser didn't show it)

Awesome, I'll definitely buy one!

I agree with the others that two 2.5Gbe would be preferable to one, but maybe that's something to hope for in a future revision. (And WiFi 6E or 7!)

This is an interesting idea.
I would buy one, even though we are still on ADSL, for now.

Interesting idea. I am not sure if I use the device as a daily driver. But I will certainly get it for tinkering around.

Cool project. If it will be under 70$, I am sold. Ship to Germany yes?

Great news. I like Banana Pi BPI-R4 's flexible, up to the user design. I hope it'd have a similar design.

Happy anniversary and happy new year!

Woohoo! This would be almost too good to be true getting official openwrt routers!

I would love to see well-supported and not underpowered hardware for openwrt so much!
Whenever I need a router the searching starts, no recommended device is still available, there are cheap and limited devices and more expensive and still limited devices and I found myself using non-openwrt devices here and there, although I love Openwrt since many many years. It would be so cool if there would be a device where someone can easily install openwrt, leaving a bit of free space for adblock and some packages, having a stable network and no trouble! For me, it should be ready to use (no DIY kit, but fully assembled, with chassis and antennas or a link where to buy).

Is there an idea about the price? Would we find such a device around $100 or world it be more like $500?

Oh I'm so excited, I hope it will work out! Good luck!

PS I think it will take a year or two to see it, so just in case, for the time being, any recommendations what to buy for SOHO applications (preferably closer to 100 Euro that to 500)?

Also wondering if there will be enough CPU for SQM Cake. Exciting project!

Happy Anniversary! For future hardware considerations, I would love to see a WAN SFP port included for PON sticks!

Ethernet: 2x RJ45 (2.5 GbE + 1 GbE)

But

  • Case: PCB size is compatible to BPi-R4 and the case design can be re-used

BPi-R4 has "2x 10Gbe SFP, 4x Gbe network port", so do you mean BPI-R3 Mini which has 2x Gbe port?

When will it be released? I want to try it.

Congrats on the 20-year birthday

Is the UI going to change in the future?
It's a very dated, and some more confusing to use.

Will a more modern interface be created? Something that uses a framework?

On my wishlist there is also a pony or a horse sticker for the case....I love them! ;- )

HBD, I like the idea, but are the specs for this machine too low?
It's weird to only have two rj45 ports and their specs. I think 4-5 ports for a router should be more reasonable. Like 1x 2.5G and 4x 1G. If there's some weird reason why we can only have two ports, I think maybe 2x 2.5G would make more sense.
The question of RAM and storage space and WiFi has already been mentioned in previous replies, so I won't go into it again.
In my opinion, the specs of this device are a bit mismatched. If we want to keep the price low so that more people can support the community by buying this device, 1G Ram, NVME and other expansion support are somewhat redundant.
If we want to make a router with strong development and expansibility, some of the above specifications seem to be too low.
Anyway, the above is just my humble opinion and I hope to see further development of this device.

Very intriguing idea! I'd like to suggest to think about 2 different goals: one to have a cheap device, one to have a device with strong development and expansibility as @Zer0in says (welcome aboard). Maybe this would imply 2 devices, maybe not..

Thanks for your work.
