@atownlede John -- your wiki article says I could use the ext4*.img.gz as the sysupgrade, however the upgrade is failing, I'm getting the same/old image after reboot. Anything I should check/debug?
Try a serial console and save the output while attempting sysupgrade using the CLI while logged in via the serial console? It's been a while since I've played with this so I don't remember offhand how best to capture the serial console output.
Had to record the serial as it was flashing too fast, here are the errors.
@atownlede I'm using the same image as I've used (gunzipped) for UTM VM and it's being rejected. Any ideas?
I think you need to use the gzipped file as the sysupgrade image?
Yes, that's what I meant, I've kept the img.gz for sysupgrade and it's exactly the same one I've gunzipped to use as the VM disk as per wiki.
I can install 23.05.0, (ext4) then sysupgrade to 23.05.2. But I can't sysupgrade to identical 23.05.2 again, or to snapshot.
I can also install 23.05.2 (ext4) (freshly downloaded) and sysupgrade to current snapshot.
I had a openwrt-23.05.2-armsr-armv8-generic-ext4-combined.img.gz on my local downloads directory, of unknown provenance, and that image when installed could not then successfully sysupgrade to anything. It might have been something I created with the image builder?
So, if you start with the 23.05.2 image here: https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/23.05.2/targets/armsr/armv8/openwrt-23.05.2-armsr-armv8-generic-ext4-combined.img.gz
can you then sysupgrade from that to a current snapshot, such as https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/targets/armsr/armv8/openwrt-armsr-armv8-generic-ext4-combined.img.gz ? I can.
Thanks, I'll try that and post back. Yeah, I was trying to use sysupgrade to the identical 23.05.02 I've had installed. It does work very well on my (non-UTM VM) ext4 x86 router tho, so there may be an issue here.
Is it possible to pass all traffic from macOS through such a VM to get various OpenWrt benefits on the go?
You'd be better off opening a new discussion to ask that, I think people will miss the question in this thread.
