just times out
It looks like your wan is shutdown, but I don't do cli much.
Still, go edit those public ip address numbers out.
i'll take out any ip addresses then - done
All right:
to my astonishment I have OpenWrt running on my Pi zero.
I have some configuring to do, hope they sort this out for you. I'll check in later.
thanks, and good luck
I cannot believe I have OpenWrt running on a pi zero w. Not a Pi zero2...
anyway, they will check back.
Just to see if you do, somehow have a firewall go here https://www.grc.com/shieldsup
click proceed
then on the next page click all service ports
There are a bunch of issues here. The fastest way to fix them is to return to the default state. Then you can make the necessary changes to connect to the internet
- connect an Ethernet cable between the pi and your computer (direct connection).
- login to openwrt and enable WiFi (be sure to set your country code, ssid name, encryption type, and passphrase).
- connect your computer via WiFi and disconnect Ethernet.
- login again
- remove eth0 from br-lan
- create a new network interface called wan (lowercase) and select the appropriate protocol (dhcp, pppoe, or static; depending on the requirements from your isp or upstream device)
- use device eth0 for the wan.
As long as you donāt have an upstream network that overlaps 192.168.1.0/24, youāll be able to get internet via wifi connected devices. If the upstream is a router and uses that subnet, you can change the lan subnet of your openwrt config and it will work.
Keep in mind that the pi4 makes an excellent wired router, but there WiFi capabilities are severely limited in basically every respect. But this should at least get you online.
When he looks at his connection status he gets public addresses. If he unplugs it is accessible but the ip should not be 192.168.1.199 for Luci. Sure, we can make it work but it is inelegant.
And, he wants to add a usb to Ethernet and that will be better integrated in the first boot.
If he uses the compiler for pi it will practically all be set up and only need a few changes like country and firewall tweaks.
I get it when people that totally know OpenWrt want to fix a messed up configuration but sometimes it is easier and better to just use the firmware selector with the suggested scripts, no?
edit
and I I agree about Pis: I am stunned this pi zero can handle more than 2 devices streaming 1080p60 video.
Sorry for the late reply, had turkey day stuff to do. Can I connect one of my tp link routers in bridge mode to serve as the wireless access point? (The parts for it showed up this morning and Iāve got it working) Will that be any faster than just using the router itself?
As for the compiler how do I even do that? I was just following the open wrt guide for the RPi 4B
Gotcha thanks
What tp-link device did you get?
Well are any of your tp-link supported by OpenWrt? Because I'd do that.
Do you have all the devices you want on the Pi? Like the Ethernet usb? Do you want to use the Pi for the house or just short range; long range will need a compatible usb wifi.
Go to the page, type in raspberry pi 4 and it should auto complete.
Just above 'download an image is a line "Customize installed packages and/or first boot script" just click it and it will open a box with what it is going to install.
below the second box click request build.
Nija'ed!
Itās a Archer CR500
Theoretically could I hook that up to the raspberry pi in bridge mode? Would that have any advantage over just ditching the raspberry pi and just using the tplink router?
My usb-Ethernet dongle also showed up, it was for another unrelated project, but in theory that could add another Ethernet port to the RPi, yeah?
Maybe Iām missing something but what page are you talking about..?
Nothing shows up for a Archer CR500
IMO, yes, put this device in bridge mode and use the openwrt router (pi). But the downside here is that the cr500 probably has reasonable wifi performance, whereas the pi is terrible for wifi.
Will you be adding any additional APs?
I think a friend has some Google AC1200 routers they were willing to donate⦠they said they could give those to me at the end of the month, if it would make my setup better.
Build a router they said! Itāll be easy and faster than your original one they said - At least itās sorta working nowā¦?
It is not supported.
But you are expecting a router from you ISP today so why not use the tp-link as your AP temporally?
