Openwrt Custom Packages!

i noticed the openwrt firmware selector. I can change replace or add custom packages and request and download them.
my question is i was able to replace dnsmasq with unbound. will this work??? or i will get an error when I change dnsmasq to unbound?

I haven't tried it yet because I haven't bought an extra router for testing yet. To the developers, please answer, thank you

Do the same on an x86 image, boot it from a flash drive, see if the results meet the expectations.

can you show me step by step how to boot from the flash drive?

That's a hw vendor specific question, not openwrt, but I'm sure Google will know.
