OpenWRT and standard firmware mesh

Hi there, all...

I have a question about mesh workability and compatibility in the 5 MHz frequency.

I have a mesh network of 4 Linksys WHW03v02 (It's 3-band equipment). What if I flush only one primary router to OpenWRT? Would I be able to connect to all the rest of the mesh with 5 MHz?

As I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong), standard Linksys products firmware is not able to work with 802.11s, which OpenWRT does.

Most mesh solutions are proprietary, it might work, if you're lucky, but don't get your hopes up.
