Subject: [GL-MT6000 / Flint 2] Wireless radios fail to initialize on boot in 25.12.0-rc3
Device: GL.iNet GL-MT6000 (Flint 2) Firmware: OpenWrt 25.12.0-rc3 (r32486-30527a4c34) Radio: MediaTek Filogic (mt798x)
Description: I am experiencing an issue where both wireless radios (radio0 and radio1) fail to initialize during boot on 25.12.0-rc3.
Important Note: This is a clean install performed via u-boot recovery, so there are no legacy configurations or "dirty" upgrade issues involved. Even with a fresh setup, both 2.4GHz and 5GHz interfaces often remain disabled after a reboot.
Manual execution of wifi up via SSH consistently fixes the issue, but the system cannot bring the interfaces up on its own during the normal boot sequence.
Workaround: I found that adding a delay to the startup script fixes the problem. It appears the wireless drivers are attempting to load before the system is ready or stable enough to handle the initialization.
Adding the following to my /etc/rc.local has proven to be a reliable workaround:

exit 0
With this 11-second delay, both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz (WPA3-SAE) radios start perfectly every time. This suggests a race condition or a timing issue in the 25.12.0-rc3 boot sequence for the mt798x target.

Yeah, exactly. I was thinking the world got into the backup, but @hnyman's post ruled that out.
(I've seen people stick /etc in the sysupgrade.conf "just to be safe" and then mayhem just like this ensues...)

You know, maybe we should have some checks in sysupgrade that disallow /etc or add an auto-ignore feature, so in /lib/upgrade/keep.d/* and conffiles like /lib/apk/packages/apk-mbedtls.conffiles we could specify specific exclusions to avoid backing up (at least) /etc/apk/world and maybe some other files.

I wasn’t aware this was an issue. Could it be related to the problem I’m having? Help with wireless repeater setup with relayd (can't get all the radios to broadcast after a reboot)
Should be something UI warns about or prevents as well.

The PBR plugin is problematic in this version, I think I lose my network connection even if I enable it without adding any rules.
It does look like sysupgrade is saving etc/apk/world

-c attempt to preserve all changed files in /etc/
It catches now also the apk database, that should not be copied, as it contain image-specific info.

Upgraded two Xiaomi AX3600 configured as AP and my x86_64 vm as router from RC2 to RC3 and have now several issues:
x86_64: using odhcpd for ipv4. The leases are now shown in luci. They are working. But they don’t show up in Luci.
AX3600: 1) one of them was missing apk at all. Owut was not working because of missing apk. with attentend-sysupgrade a had to manually add it. The other one had it included. Very strange.
2) Since the upgrade to RC3 i have massive connectivity problems over wifi. The clients are connecting, getting a dhcp lease and then the lease disappears on the client and of course the client can’t connect to anything. After several connection attempts the lease stays.
Both are very strange.
Nothing special is seen (by myself) in the logs.
ADDENDUM:
Switched the x86 router back to RC2. Now it works again. No connection issues. DHCP Leases are correctly shown and also in the log i see now how the dhcpv4 messages appear.
I saw that in the RC3 Build, both odhcpd-ipv6only and odhcpd were installed. In RC2 only odhcpd.
Yeah, those special purpose options are inappropriate for use across an upgrade. Sooner or later, you'll surely get more files than just world that should not be restored. Simple sysupgrade -b backup.tgz is what sysupgrade does internally when you "keep config" and that works without any of these issues.
The only use for the -c option I can see is restoring to the exact version, preferably same .img file, from which it was derived.

Upgraded from rc2, all smooth and working in rc3. (via owut)
Upgraded from 24.10.5, process went smooth and all working except, like when I did rc2, had to remove Default DUID and redo wan6 config to properly receive IPv6 address. (via owut)
All in all no issues that I can see, I think it’s responding faster even. Thank you devs!

Apparently, the SAMBA4 server has never been compiled, as it is not even present in version 25.12.0-rc1.
Looks like it is failing for mips targets also in master:

And as 25.12 is "master as in December", the same problem trickles down to 25.12.
There is currently apparently nobody interested enough in Samba4 that he/she would try to fix the issues. (there has been no "maintainer" for the package since 2022)
Ps. I think that the more lightweight ksmbd gets currently more interest than the traditional heavy samba package.
Asus TUF AX6000 as DAP, using DAWN, wpad-mbedtls, 160 MHz (channel 116, CH), and so on.
OpenWrt Imagebuilder worked smoothly, upgrade from 25.12.0-rc3 to 25.12.0-rc3 worked smoothly.
However, I get a SyntaxError on the Overview page. I rolled back to 25.12.0-rc2 which is working perfectly. I may try the next RC or stable release.
As a “stability” comparison I will keep the second identical DAP on 24.10.5.

Please read the previous messages... This is mentioned several times, practically every hour 
The fix is to either apk upgrade luci-app-attendedsysupgrade package to get the fix, or manually add one semicolon ; to /www/luci-static/resources/view/status/include/11_upgrades.js after the uci line (line 5) where it is missing.

That is not a problem of this release but rather of a broken package which came after RC3. I have heard this notion for years: "Upgrade packages carefully. Blame yourself if you get problems". I never liked it but this is one moment when it was 100% correct.
