OpenWrt 23.05 on Huasifei WS1208V2

Hi, new OpenWrt user here (I only installed it on one router so far).

I'm considering an MT7621-based router by Chinese company Huasifei: board only, with enclosure. It is supported by OpenWrt since commit efbb623.

That commit was in Feb 2023, do I understand correctly that this means that it is included in the recently released OpenWrt 23.05? Cause the device page for this router only links to a "snapshot" build. Is the page simply not up-to-date maybe?

Updating the device pages, especially for new devices that just got part of a stable release, is a manual process, taking a look at the download mirrors is always authoritative:
https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/23.05.2/targets/ramips/mt7621/openwrt-23.05.2-ramips-mt7621-huasifei_ws1208v2-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin

Or https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/

Ideal, thank you very much.

On closer investigation, I see that the commit that added support for this router describes the router as containing a Quectel RM520N-GL 5G cellular modem. In actuality however, the manufacturer sells this router with a variety of LTE or 5G, mPCIe or M.2, Quectel cellular modems. Which modem a router contains is at the customer's discretion, to fit their usage and geographical area. The router's model name remains the same: WS1208V2.

Does the commit mean that OpenWrt support for this model is limited to the version with a RM520N-GL 5G modem? Or are all cellular modems supported somehow? I had a look at the diff but couldn't find anything pertaining specifically to modem versions.

I suppose it's a noob question, sorry about that...

Not all modems are the same, but you should be able to get most (all?) of them working.

OK thank you! Gonna cross fingers and see what happens.
