OpenWrt 21.02.0 first release candidate

But in 21.02 you also now have DSA for those mvbu Linksys devices so do you have those settings right for the radios?
But fault in DSA config usually is binary, it ether work or don’t work in comparison when the driver fault show up as diffuse faults and stability problems.

yeah yeah debugging... you are right though, but in standard Wifi AC 36 channel always working. not it is not stable. on wifi ac 36 channel was always stable.

yes same here, always stable my wrt 3200 acm, but not on this v21

Nice! waiting for it

Analysis could be possible if you would reveal the router device model and provide debug logs.

"See now?!"

I tried the release candidate on an Aruba AP11 (AP-303) and temporarily put it into service as a one-armed router, WLAN AP and IPsec VPN gateway. The firmware image was built with the RC1 Imagebuilder using the following package list modifications:

Soon, /overlay turned read-only because of flash access errors.
On a closer look, I found error messages from the ath10k-ct driver shortly before that, like:
Cannot communicate with firmware
I do not know if the errors were related in any way, or this was just a coincidence.

I rebooted the device to restore write access, and replaced the ath10k driver with the non-ct version, as well as the corresponding firmware, ath10k-firmware-qca4019.
Reboot again, and the device has been running stable now for 27 hours, including WLAN and NAND flash.

probably the bots are crunching the firmwares and packages so wait until they are built and uploaded.

Yea I don't encourage people to install rc2 until they release it. I installed rc2 on my WRT32X this morning and it worked great until I noticed Samba4 was broken on LuCI with some "TypeError". I also noticed a couple other odd LuCI errors. rc1 doesn't have those issues.

edit: looks like it was a legit bug and was just fixed, commit link below. That's why we wait

Thx for the heads up. I just checked in after being absent for awhile and I was about to try to put a build together.

I am without vlan setup thru luci until development is further along. Can make a person careless when to eager to update.

it should go without saying that testing "release candidate" and other "request for testing" has risk and the user should already know how to recover...

you would think so, but the gift and curse of enticing the casual to get into this scene is that they don't fully understand these things.

personally speaking i think it's quite a bit to expect the openwrt userbase to know how to solder+serial, but that's just me. this in no way, of course, is a reflection on the users. it's just my assumption.

forum activity is a skewed representation/sampling of this userbase if you ask me.

That is the thing with support forums (regardless of product), it is the user group with some kind of failure that is most commonly found in these forums.

The other big user group that is most often never heard of is the one that makes it work and use it quietly.

And then we have the user group (often somewhat small in size compared to the fault group) that doesn’t have a direct fault but want to grow their know-how in some way.

In the viewpoint of Release Candidates many don’t seem to read “rc1” at all and understand the implication of those letters, they just read 21.02.
