I use the app called Nice Trace most of the time, but there are other network utilities that you can get from the app store (free or inexpensive) that will do the same thing.

Also I think you missed a post.

  • either the reload (which may prove @vgaetera's point);
  • or just reboot as @psherman suggested

When making such changes, don't mix those methods. The source of a majority of your issues are that you're not properly "Applying" changes after they're made.

Make sure to edit the original post in which you stated the method which fixed my problem to add that. If any other people have my problem, then they look at the post which solved it, but they need this extra detail about not mixing methods.

So do I have to only reboot now or only reload now to fix the problem caused by mixing methods.

Everything works though, so I don't think there are any more issues.

Yes; but to be clear, it seems enumerating the VPN as its own zone and interface fixed your original issue.
