OpenVPN for SSH only

I am using OpenVPN client on OpenWRT and using the OpenWISP for remote firmware upgrade. Is it possible to open the tunnel for SSH port 22 to use OpenVPN and the rest of the internet connection bypass the VPN?

Anyone done this before. Is there any method of remote firmware upgrade without using the OpenWISP platform? Any idea?

You need to do Policy Based Routing and you have pbr package or a set of rules/routes for the non default gateway.

I am not sure I understand your question.

You want to use OpenVPN only for management purposes and not forward all the traffic of the device through it right?
If this is your question, then I think the traffic shouldn't be forwarded through the VPN unless you explicitly configured it this way, hence the VPN is used only for management purposes.
