Opening a port via commercial VPN

As I said, PureVPN is only a last-resort VPN provider for your use case, and I do not recommend it anyway due to their reconnect behavior. As you are in France, I strongly suggest OVPN (which is a VPN provider and is not related to OpenVPN at all) with their public-ip add-on. They use WireGuard which is a modern, fast, and secure protocol, well supported by OpenWrt.

Well, for the use case where the VPN is used only as a provider of a public IP, the security of the VPN connection does not matter.

This is true and a very good point. In this case, it is important for the VPN tunnel to be associated with the wan zone (or another 'untrusted' zone).
