High? An N100 idling consumes about 10-12W, that's not high, it's higher but not high.
You're talking in relativistic terms which is a pointless debate. N100 is 1.5-2x the power consumption of a Filogic 880 which is a lot more if you only want to route 2Gbit using HFO (no SQM) may as well use half the energy. If you want to do QoS, SQM, or IPS on that then you only have one choice and the discussion becomes moot.
I'm quite clearly speaking in absolute terms. 10-12W is absolutely not high. You are the one speaking in relative terms by describing something as "1.5-2x the power consumption".
High, higher, and not high are all relative terms. You waste time with this thread.
This router + optical terminal consumes about 10.8 W depending on the load.
This is without devices connected to the USB port.
+- similar in hardware Redmi AX6000 consumes 1 W less.
Pointing out incorrect information is not a waste of time. Stating that an N100 has high energy consumption is incorrect information.
The yearly electricity cost of a device (such as an N100) that consumes 10W at 10cents per kWh and is running 24/7 is:
24h365d(10W/1000Wh)*0.10cents = 8.76 per year
This is 2.4cents per day.
You can complain that the numbers used above aren't realistic if you like, it doesn't matter. You can say that the power consumption is too low (it's roughly right) or the electricity cost is too low (that depends where in the world you are) but you can change those numbers and the cost of an N100 vs whatever over a year is still small. If the device is under load transferring ISOs all day and the consumption increases to 20W the cost goes up to 17.52 a year. This is 4.8cents a day. If the electricity cost goes up to 20cents per kWh and the device is transferring ISOs all day every day then the cost goes up to 35.04 a year. This is almost 10 cents a day, a tiny portion of the cost of the internet connection that merits using a performant openwrt device.
Of course, the device is highly unlikely to be under load 24/7.
Now, people are entitled to make a judgement as to whether they want to pay 4.38 vs 8.76 over the course of a year. Or 17.52 vs 8.76. Or 2.4cents a day vs 4.8cents a day. Or use whatever metric they like. That's a relative judgement.
To return to the original point I was making, the power consumption of an N100 is not "high".
Gentlemen! Brack! The topic is about the router, not about the micro PC)).
