After the device reboots into the OpenWrt u-boot we adjust the device's MAC address (adjust the values, see the sticker under the NAS case):

Glad to hear. Please remove your MAC adresses here for security reason.

Which evil things can you do with a MAC address?

It depends on many parameters but in general not much as long as:

  • the evil guy is not in your network
  • not trying to get into your network over your Wifi (if MAC is a Wifi client MAC)
  • not trying to hack your router over public ip (if you post your routers MAC and IP)

But in general the MAC is usually a world-wide unique serialnumber/address. So its good practice to keep it secret. Overall it is recommended here to not post it: "Remember to redact passwords, MAC addresses and any public IP addresses you may have" I can read often. Just do this everytime to avoid mistakes posting once time IP and other time MAC.
