I am new to openwrt v23. I have been using openwrt for year back when it was called chaos calmer and up to version 19.
I have come back now and I am a bit older now with less memory and less sharp... Oh well we all get there.
I have openwrt installed on a d'link R32 at version 23.10. I am at work and router is at home right now.
I managed to configure the 2.4GHz radio and the 5GHz radio. What I cant seem to set up correctly is the DNS server. I want to use openDNS servers but can figure where to do it or what box to check. I will give this time for some to read and will check back this evening when I am logged in to the router.
Yes I am in fact at OpenWrt 24.10.0. I have entered the IPv4 address in the network/dns+dhcp/forwarders, but it's still not resolving in the router. Also what about IPv6?
I have to manually enter it in the windows setting because it not coming over the LAN.
The defaults are to get the DNS servers from upstream and give local clients the router's local address (default 192.168.1.1) with DNSMASQ running on the router handling the requests.
You only need to change the first to have requests go to a custom DNS server like OpenDNS - for the Network -> Interfaces, WAN interface under Advanced Settings uncheck "Use DNS servers advertised by peer" and a place to enter custom servers will be shown.
So I made those settings but it is still using my ISP DNS setting. I can see this with the ipconfig/all command. What should the LAN IPV4 gateway and IPv4 broadcast be. I attached a screen shot that shows the gatway is that of my ISP (WAN).
