Hi,
For a small appartement in France but 6 or 7 connected devices I need an openWRT router with WiFi. Also in order to replace ISP box.
I want to buy the "TP-Link AC1900 Smart WiFi Router (Archer A8)", is this one compatible with openWRT please ?
This router is not on the openwrt website list but it is on this one : https://www.bestreviews.guide/openwrt-router Number 5
Which firmware do I need for it please ?
TY

The Archer A8 uses little known MediaTek TP1900BN. It is not supported by OpenWrt at this time.
List of compatible hardware can be found here:
https://openwrt.org/toh/start
Does your current ISP box use an ethernet connection to the ISP broadband service, or ADSL/VDSL connection?
What is the speed of the broadband service ?
TY for your answer.
The fiber arrive to a first device called "ONT" "Optical Network Termination" and then restart on a RJ45 cable to the box.
ISP is low cost part of "SFR" called "SFR RED".
Max at my computer on RJ45 is 400/500Mb/s
I am not interested on the phone or TV features, only Internet and also USB connection for storage.

What speed do you pay for is more important then what speed you computer can handle?
I mean I have 400 download and 500 upload mesured on my computer.
I pay 13€ à month for this.
Yea…
Buy a Gbit router that is in the Table of Hardware list, then you will be happy.

No, most "Gbit router[s]" won't do anything close to the required speeds (~500 MBit/s), the below applies:
Buy a expensive Gbit router then.
Or I keep my crappy ISP Box with its bugs...

You could buy this Dual Gigabit Ethernet Carrier board + CM4 non-WiFi module and install OpenWrt System by Seeed . They compile images everyday. I use this board to realize applications such as NAS, VPN, Home Assistant, Adguard Home. The board has 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports and they both reach up to 1Gbps speeds.
Although the above can only do Ethernet, The other option would be to use Dual Gigabit Ethernet Carrier board + CM4 WiFi module . By using this, the above-mentioned features and wireless routing can be achieved.
There is another option to run the above OpenWrt system by Seeed, and that is the ODYSSEY - X86J4125 board. It will be much more powerful than the CM4 board to run OpenWrt, also having Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports.
