Hi, I have downloaded openwrt-23.05.2-octeon-generic-ubnt_edgerouter-lite-initramfs-kernel.bin
but cannot access the online help because of what looks like template/php errors.
My question is - is all that is required is to write the bin file to a usb stick and boot it?
edit: i'd also like to pre-set the ipaddress before firstboot as 192.168.1.1 is in use.
is this possible?
The firmware is not distributed as a disk image. You will need to extract the sysupgrade.tar file and place the two files (kernel and rootfs) that it contains into two partitions on the flash drive. This only needs to be done once for the initial install. The sysupgrade scripts in OpenWrt will take care of upgrades.
I don't know if anyone has tried booting the initramfs then upgrading. That could in theory work without needing a Linux PC.
For a one-off case, rather than trying to make custom firmware it would be easier to boot the router first not connected to any network other than your PC then configure it.
