I have some issues with my network which i do not understand.
I have a main router (r7800 with 23.05.5) and two APs/switches (wax202 and wax206, both now with 23.05.5).
It all used to work fine, however after trying to install 24.10.0 and reverting back to 23.05.5 (due to no networking at all any more), the network is not stable anymore.
I sometimes lose WiFi connection, WiFi-LAN connection seems unstable. Before I could reach media players (RPi's with moode audio player) from any access point in the network, but now I can only connect with a media player to control it when I'm also connected with the same access point. So routing across the network doesn't go well.
I cannot figure out where it goes wrong as I sometimes can connect and sometimes not. After reboot then it works for a while but after some time connections get lost again.
I've configured the APs as dumb access points according the instructions in the user guide (bridged AP aka dumb access point).
Maybe a last point, my main openwrt router is behind the isp router on which I have disabled WiFi and I've put the main openwrt in DMZ of the isp router.
This setup has worked well for years but now I have issues and cannot trace back where I went wrong....
I do not know about the WAX202 and 206 but for the R78000 you cannot go back and forth between 23.05.5 and 24.10 without doing a reset and setup from scratch
Or use this trick:
R7800 Upgrading from 23.05 to 24.10
Safest: Upgrade without keeping settings and put settings in manually you cannot restore from an old config.
However at your own risk you can do the following:
Only get new defaults for config files system, network and sqm, as sqm and network have reference to DSA and system to compat version.
Just simply rename system, network and sqm in /etc/config before upgrading.
You can then force upgrade while keeping your settings
Then OpenWrt generates new default files for you (note: your router will be on 192.168.1.1 after upgrade!).
You can then use the renamed config files to copy some settings back
I have been testing my 23.05 and master builds by keeping two versions of system, network and sqm config files, and have just been copying the correct one into place before sysupgrade.
It actually started with me trying to replace the r7800 with an MT6000, the MT6000 was running 24.10 and I also updated the wax202 and the wax206. But then I did not get an working network.
So I placed the r7800 back (unchanged, still running 23.05.5) but both APs were not reachable anymore. I then reconfigured both wax202 and wax206 from scratch with 23.05.5 again but unfortunately I still have issues since....
