Netgear wnr2200 and HP Deskjet 2540 wireless problem

Hi.

First of all I migrated my router netgear wdr2200 from DD-WRT to openWRT (latest version).
When I was using DD-WRT I had my HP printer connected to the router using a wi-fi connection, no problem.

Then I migrated to openWRT and all my devices are successfully connected to router, except the Deskjet printer!

During the printer setup (from the router system log) I can see:

My openWRT router:

radio0

Type: MAC80211 802.11bgn
Channel: 1 (2.412 GHz)
Bitrate: 85 Mbit/s

SSID: myid
Mode: Master
BSSID: C4:04:15:8C:F5:B2
Encryption: WPA2 PSK (CCMP)
Associations: 7

Any suggestion?

Thanks

Did you check if the authentification protocol set on the router is agreed by the printer ?

Embedded wireless stacks, like on that printer, can be really picky (buggy) in terms of subtle configuration differences. In cases like this, it does make sense to try resetting the printer's wireless settings and reconfiguring them from scratch.

Hi.
The printer was complaining about a Mac Filtering that, in his opinion!, was enabled inside the router.
Not true.

I decided to set the router wifi security to

Encryption: WPA2 PSK (CCMP)

then I did the reset of the wifi settings on the printer and set the router wifi settings using the printer internal web server (I pressed 3 seconds the wifi-direct button to print the single page tutorial from the printer itself).

At first I got the same error message from the printer diagnostic (Mac Filtering: fail), but after a power off it started working!

I'm not completely sure what the problem was, maybe it was the wifi security or something else.

For sure now I'm able to reach the printer in 3 ways:

  • directly using my wifi network and the printer own IP address
  • via cups on openWRT (printer connect to the router using USB)
  • via wifi-direct, using the wifi network provided by the printer (after switching the wifi-direct button on)

Thanks

I was about to suggest you to use USB link with the router. Seems the easiest way for me, and the most reliable one.
