Netgear R7800 exploration (IPQ8065, QCA9984)

That is what I did. Continuous block on lower channels. Seems to work. Doesn't crash the driver like it did before the patch.

can someone test this???

https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/staging/jow.git;a=commitdiff;h=c75bb741e18009bc5c0e82b9ef13a95b9ff18f88

Instead of or in addition to the patches above?

Instead. The above is a consolidated version of @Ansuel's pull request which I intend to push to master once someone confirms that it is working well. Personally I could only compile test it due to a lack of ath10k hardware.

I get the same error even when trying the channels @Ansuel suggested. Have you been able to get it working?

I don't think those patches (for VHT160) were merged yet. Building after applying the patches worked for me. I am planning on giving the consolidated patches a try next time I build:
https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/staging/jow.git;a=commitdiff;h=c75bb741e18009bc5c0e82b9ef13a95b9ff18f88

If they work for you, please provide feedback on this thread for Ansuel and jow.

I got the error on a build with the consolidated patch. Initially, I thought the error maybe had something to do with my configuration, but a factory reset didn't solve the issue.

What type of error? The ath10k doesn't load?

The network doesn't come up when I select 160mhz. Here's the log:

we need someone to test the consolidated patch not 160 mhz :frowning:

160 mhz was really broken... before the other patch, the firmware just crashed now it does report dfs problem... are you sure you don't have problem with dfs???

Anyway can you make some test with 80mhz?

I am testing the consolidated patch, and 80mhz worked fine when I tried it. Just so we're on the same page, the consolidated patch is supposed to fix 160mhz so it can be used, right?

I've also tried to run 160mhz on a non-dfs channel with it resulting in a dfs-related crash.

well no the 160mhz fix is already pushed... (did you tested 80mhz dfs channel?) (this pr is to fix support for newer firmware version)
patch

Ok, sorry about that. I'm currently running my wireless network on channel 112 with a width of 80 MHz, and everything seems to be running fine. This is with the consolidated patch.

can you try auto channel and 160 mhz?
@jow looks like the consolidated patch works well... (160 mhz problems are not related to it)

@Ansuel - thanks for the feedback, I merged it to master now. Will observe the situation for another few days and cherry-pick it to openwrt-18.06 if no further issues are found.

It didn't work, and it seems like ACS only supports VHT20/40/80 as can be seen in the log:

Sun Jul 22 23:13:25 2018 daemon.notice hostapd: ACS: Only VHT20/40/80 is supported now

about the acs problem i found this

https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/878830/

I'm confused about what jow's consolidated patch is intended to do - the description starts "This commit refreshes and updates the VHT160 ath10k support fix patches..." and several of the patches refer to VHT160. But Ansuels comments above suggest that testing this patch doesn't require testing VHT160. It feels like we're talking about different things?

that patch update the pending patch to lates revision (or version) and also introduce new patch to support the new ath10k firmware blob (it needs DFS confirmation to work...) also fix some critical bug with some debug info in the /sys filesystem

doesn't actually improve support for 160mhz, it just refresh the patch with the newer version from the ath10k mailing list... that's all...
