Netgear R6260 works until reboot

Hello,

I have installed a couple of versions of the factory snapshot image to no avail. The device seems to work properly, including getting ssh access, internet access, turning wifi on, etc. The problem is that any time I reboot or turn the power off, I have to unbrick the device and reinstall a firmware. Does anyone have any information that would help solve this?

I have exactly the same problem on my Netgear R6220... I have completed this process 4 times by now, and the outcome is always the same: a bricked device..!! Please help..

in this situation someone needs to have a serial cable attached
and view the data cumming out to see where it's going wrong

Use nmrpflash method to recover from crash. It works fine on the 6220.

I will try to do this when I get home from work this afternoon. Hopefully there is an easy spot to connect to. I haven't seen any dev blogs or anything related to this gear, or interior pictures.

You must installed a factory image just once, a first install from stock firmware. After you must install a sysupgrade file.

Got it... I am already using it, and it worked perfectly.

But what we should do to get a stable OpenWrt firmware?

I manage three 6220, they all works fine with 19.07 and 21.02. There is no trick while installing, just use web gui install into stock firmware.
I used nmrpflash once while being stuck with an early 21.02 snapshot. Such case can happen.

Use nmrpflash to reverse to stock firmware, than flash the openwrt factory image within webgui.

I’ll try with the 21.02....

More info, this is openwrt-21.02.0-rc1-ramips-mt7621-netgear_r6260-squashfs-factory.img. I have also tired the current snapshot. It works fine, everything configures. I can install the gui if I want. I ran it for about 12 hours with no problems, but if I reboot the router in any way it gives a CRC error then kernal panics.

I also tried with the snapshot and then update the firmware using sysupgrade. However, as soon as I reboot the device, the bootloop shows up!!

look's like something to do with flash

my have to watch 1st boot after flashing & watch while it's formatting the UBI partition

it boots the 1st time due to it formatting the UBI partition
2nd time it can't mount what it's got so fails

Try to revert to stock firmaware using nmrpflash. Check that everything is alright (use it several hours, perform reboots), than give a try back to openwrt. BTW I'm thinking about buying one 6260 for someone, so ... I'll prefer to know that it works fine :wink:

Just updated yesterday my R6260 with snapshot and have no problem with rebooting. Works fine.

I have just tried several build for R6260.
Only the one that released on Apr 26 will work, all others will fail with the same result as you get.

What I have done:
Reset Official firmware (R6260_V1.1.0.78_1.0.1), and only set admin password
Flash squashfs-factory.img with GUI, after reaching Luci, physical reset router
Flash squashfs-sysupgrade.bin with Luci, after reaching Luci again, soft reset router
After reset done, SSH to router, opkg update and install packages (relayd, luci-proto-relayd) that I need, reboot

Remarks:
All other builds that I failed with the same result as you get are from the below link, without pressing "Build request" before downloading, all of them will fail after first reboot:
