Netgear EX6150v2 bricked?

hi,
i was running on ex6150v2 19.07.07 so i flashed it via luci with file
openwrt-21.02.1-ipq40xx-generic-netgear_ex6150v2-squashfs-factory
and i unlicked keep config.

apparently its bricked? Once i power on the device -> only power led is on in Orange color, ethernet blicks in some intervals for few seconds....

any idea? Not sure why i cant upgrade devices without constant issues....

thx

Your device is a ramips with an mt7621 subtarget

Due to the change from swconfig to DSA, configurations are not upgradeable for the following targeted devices...

ath79 (only TP-Link TL-WR941ND)
bcm4908
gemini
kirkwood
mediatek (most boards)
mvebu
octeon
ramips (mt7621 subtarget only)
realtek

If you kept your configs from 19.07.7, you'll need to re-configure from scratch.

Likely the cause of your issues.

Try to get into Failsafe mode and follow the steps...

Since you started a new thread, please delete the same post in the other thread.

hi,
so config was not kept.

This is miserable. sorry. Seems that each upgrade of openwrt kills device during flashing.

So proceed with Failsafe as posted above.

And delete the post in the other thread.

Thanks.

Topic for another thread.

i was able to flash original stock

following these steps....

now question would be... can i flash openwrt-21.02.1-ipq40xx-generic-netgear_ex6150v2-squashfs-factory

or it will brick it again?
Can someone confirm its working? as other ppl also bricked their devices...

thx

Follow the guidelines for stock to OpenWRT, which is the sysupgrade .img file for your device..

this is confusing, the link posted didnt say which one ..
ie squash or sysupgrade.

In the hardware data...

Firmware OpenWrt Install URL:
    https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/21.02.1/targets/ipq40xx/generic/openwrt-21.02.1-ipq40xx-generic-netgear_ex6150v2-squashfs-factory.img
Firmware OpenWrt Upgrade URL:
    https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/21.02.1/targets/ipq40xx/generic/openwrt-21.02.1-ipq40xx-generic-netgear_ex6150v2-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin

Firmware OpenWrt Install = Stock to OpenWRT

Firmware OpenWrt Upgrade = Upgrade existing OpenWRT install with a new version of OpenWRT.

sorry u are confusing>
thats written in https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=commit;h=970f1914be3f299fb302ca74a214589397000858

Install via Web-Interface:
Upload the factory image to the device to the Netgear Web-Interface.
The device might asks you to confirm the update a second time due to
detecting the OpenWRT firmware as older. The device will automatically
reboot after the image is written to flash.

See my post above on which firmware to use for what purpose...

yes thanks,
maybe thats why it got bricked... bc i used from 19x to 21
Firmware OpenWrt Install = Stock to OpenWRT

i can confirm from
it works now using Firmware OpenWrt Install = Stock to OpenWRT

Model Netgear EX6150v2
Firmware Version OpenWrt 21.02.1 r16325-88151b8303 / LuCI openwrt-21.02 branch git-21.295.67054-13df80d

@anon89577378 thanks for the help/assistance.

its a bit confusing ... As I was told time ago following:

So I think the steps I did ie from 19x to 21 using squash factory were correct, just no idea why it got stuck "bricked?" and i needed to flash OEM via tftp etc...

okay
from the official openwrt page...
Sysupgrade can be used to upgrade a device from 19.07 to 21.02, and configuration will be preserved in most cases.

Linksys devices are the exception.

means it can be upgraded from opewrt X to X+1 using squashfs-factory ?

thx

Doesn't apply to Netgear, which is the subject of your thread.
