I have successfully flashed OpenWrt on my EA7500 v2. However, after any reboot, OpenWrt fails to start. The router attempts to boot OpenWrt three times and then automatically switches back to the OEM Linksys firmware.
The first boot after flashing works and the OpenWrt UI is accessible. But once the router is rebooted or power-cycled, OpenWrt never loads again.
I have tested multiple OpenWrt versions, including the version 21.02.3 (which I saw mentioned in forum posts as working), but the issue persists.
you've obviously seen https://openwrt.org/toh/linksys/linksys_ea7500_v2#flash_unsuccessfull_router_booting_to_oem_firmware ?
Yes! But if I can already access the OpenWrt UI and use it normally, and the problem only happens after a reboot, I’m not sure if that explanation applies.
Right now the router works fine right after flashing — I can log into the OpenWrt interface and everything is usable. The issue is that after any reboot or power loss, it becomes unusable again.
What I want is simply a way to prevent that from happening and make the router boot into OpenWrt reliably every time and not need me to flash each time there is a power loss.
Just to add the moment a power loss happens. Even if I do a 3 power cycle, it cant reload the openwrt partition and the only way I can reload the partition is by reflashing. I have already tried the sysupdate but any power loss will cause the luci gui to be inaccessible again... needing a reflash to access.
This has already been discussed. This device behave like the EA7300v2. Just follow the instructions here. You will also have explanations about the boot process, and how to tweak it.
