Need assistance with recovering a ZBT-WG3526

You might take a look through the LEDE documentation before continuing...

https://lede-project.org/docs/user-guide/vendor_specific_rescue

https://lede-project.org/toh/views/toh_admin_serial

I have the same router and with connected serial port it did not boot - I had to turn on the router (without port connected), then wait a few seconds and then connect the port. (but I had a combined converter that was a problem)

device has a web based bootloader on 192.168.1.1. press reset button, aplly power holding reset button pressed until lan led from connected lan port begins to come up.
bad news, only chinese laguage based. but on the first page, hit the big button in the middle, a popup will allow you to pick up a file from your hdd. select the firmware you want to flash, press ok button in the next window and wait. device will reboot from it's own and: you're done with recovering...

question: anbody able to get an english webgui for the bootloader on it?
( allnet wrt1200ac, same board as jgdempsey )

that's correct, zbt routers normally has this never-die-uboot feature that means you don't really need access its serial ports

Hi,
I have a 16M ZBT WG3526. Just upgraded ver 18.06.5 to 19.07.1. So far no problems, & I must say that ver 18.06.5 really cracks! Fastest I have ever seen this router run.
I have only ever used the update in the Luci interface. I originally updated from Lede to OpenWRT again with no issues.
One suggestion is to not use your old configuration when one updates between major versions. Save the configuration you used as a guide (by printing each page), but enter it by hand. Bit more work, but much better in my estimation.

Good Luck!
