NanoPi R2S suddenly does not boot anymore

I have been using my NanoPI R2S for years. Yesterday I performed an upgrade from 25.12.1 to 25.12.4 with owut and it no longer booted. I have tried clean images, different SD cards, 25.12.1 / 25.12.4 / SNAPSHOT, all with roughly the same result: after about 8 seconds into the startup, it halts.

FriendlyWRT 25.12.4 works like a charm...
