Multiple SSID for wifi extender and which extender to chose

Ive not yet taken the jump to use wrt so as ye not got a device.

I would like to achieve two things

  1. use an extender to extend the hotspot
  2. Have 3 SSIDs stored but only connect to one.

Whilst i have an ex2700 i understand these will allow for older firmware only and by extension have vulnerabilities. Can somebody recommend a suitable, economical extender which could be used?

Please post output of

ubus call system board

How extender differs from normal wifi router?
Suitable in what way?

Suitable in terms of
a) being an extender not a modem
b) being able to run a sufficiently upto date firmware. the ex2700 as i understand it is not able to run the current openwrt firmware .

Currently running netgear firmware so unable to currently run that command.
I'd prefer to install on final device rather than duplicate work. Hence the request for advice on best device.

You have ta on of to choose from:

You cannot extend from provider's wifi comfortably. Either all OpenWRT or all from same vendor.

Thanks.

Im lost at what you mean when you say i cant extend comfortably.

An also confused when you say re providers. By provider.. device manufactuer, chip or service provider. Sorry if these are daft questions.

Upon further research i understand to achieve what i want, i need to install travelmate. That i presume will require additional storage/ram. Can this be run of a simple extender or would a basic router be the minimum requirement?

I am talking about wifi router provider drops in your property.
If they have only modem/media converter just buy two routers to fit your bill. Though stand back a bit on second one, AC and AX improves range on their own.

ok. I think I understand. Thanks!

how fast is the the network? hotspot is public?

Hotspot from 5g mobile phones. Signal currently is bad ie 1 bar. So connection speeds are low. Connection needs are low.
Wanting to save settings for 4 ssid but only connect to one. Objective is functionality speed is secondary so long as its functional for netflix, spotify +++ the coverage area is dependant on where used. 3 scenarios.
1 is small house. Caravan and boat. Max 10mx 10m.

Edit: connected to this will be 1 tv, 1 Rpi, 1 tablet. nothing more.

for sure a mediatek device, but at this point i'll look for a device that can work indoor and outdoor, like the comfast ew72 v2. you can even use that on boat and caravan to connect it at other free hotspot if your phone have not a good signal.Maybe I exaggerated a bit, but it's just an observation.
