Modernizing the Table of Hardware

The ToH has served us well. Its database of information about devices is invaluable. The new JSON facility provides real-time filtering which dramatically improves its user experience.

However, the top-level Supported Devices page is no longer helpful. It has big warnings for things like 4/32 devices that are no longer relevant; it dwells on "General Requirements"; it has general housekeeping things (CSV dumps).

And if you look hard enough, you can find a link to a page that will let you see if your router is supported by OpenWrt.

My proposal: I have created a draft ToH main page that could become the top-level "Supported Devices" page. It has these attributes:

  • It features the Table of Hardware
  • This draft only lists devices that support the current 23.05
  • The Top_Note is whittled down to the essentials.

Comments, please... Thanks

I like it, I think these are useful changes for the better.

I think it should also prominently feature a link to https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/ for users who stumble upon the (new) ToH, but could find what they need using a much simpler interface

Good suggestion. Check it now: draft ToH main page

Could be even closer to the top, as an eye-catcher (people who are there for the ToH will know to mentally skip it on their second to third visit ;)) for the uninitiated - but it's definitely the right direction imho!

Whoa! That is SUPER QUICK. I like it!

Perhaps the supported version column should link to that version on firmware-selector ?
I don't think most people are interested in reading the release highlights...
