I have a question.
My router has two mini pcie slots and I wonder if I can buy a good wifi ac mini-pcie card for that router.
I have an old mini-pci card: AZUREWAVE AW-NE766 WIRELESS N CARD MINI-PCI-E RT2700E
As a test I plugged the card old but it didn't work.
I want to know if it's my old card not working or my router works only with the wifi cards that sold with the router?
Before digging deeply, I'd search the forum here on why miniPCie cards can be disappointing, between lack of driver support in general, lack of driver support for "AP" use (rather than "client" use), and lack of dual-band simultaneous operation. At least for me, I can buy a good, used Archer C7 for less than I can a reputable miniPCIe card.
Have you checked that the proper drivers are installed? OpenWrt, being targeted as small devices, doesn't have the luxury of installing every driver known to Linux-kind like a "desktop" OS does.
Are there any hints in the logs?
That card requires the rt2800 driver to work. Should be named kmod-rt2800...something.

This router has two mini-PCIe slots and I'd like to buy the best compatible card with openwrt. But before I buy something, I want to make sure that it will work with with this router.

The manufacturer offers five different wireless cards with MediaTek chipsets, based on MT76x2, MT7603 and MT7615. Images of the board all show that the miniPCIe slots are dedicated to specific Wi-Fi cards. However, the slots are generic.
What does "the miniPCIe slots are dedicated to specific Wi-Fi cards. " mean?
Are those "specific cards" the ones that manufacturer sells or only some miniPCIe wireless cards?
I was trying to install rt2800 driver via luci and it didn't work.
Now I tried to install kmod-rt2800-pci package via console and voila! it works 
So guys I can buy any openwrt compatible wireless mini-pcie card or two for this router.
Any recommendations?
If price is no concern, I use the Mikrotik R11e-5HacT and R11e-2HPnD.

As far as I know you want 9984 or 9994 if you want to go with QCA but the driver also likes memory which might be an issue further down the road. Do note that most cards are oversized.
