Mikrotik SXTsq 5 ac: tmpfs root

Following the install instructions, I'm able to get OpenWRT running on the mentioned routerboard. Unfortunately, root file system is temporary and every change disappears after the reboot. I can see no errors in dmesg output, so what could be wrong or what could I try to do? Thanks.

PS: already tried to erase mtd8 manually (mtd erase /dev/mtd8) and reboot without any difference in the behavior.

Are you still running the initramfs build? You need to upgrade to the squashfs-sysupgrade build.

"following install instructions" I mean:

  1. netboot using initramfs build
  2. install sysupgrade (squashfs) build through the UI
