Mesh hardware in 2025

Hello,

I've read a lot of thing about mesh networks and roaming networks. In my case I can attach multiple routers to my wired LAN so, I would like to setup a mesh network.

In terms of performance I'd like a Wifi 6 mesh network (2,4Ghz for some devices, and 5Ghz for computers and telephons) and my ISP provides me with 10Gb fiber (in fact I have 200 Mb up and down)
I have also to avoid some wifi chipset because my doorbell doesn't support broadcom devices for example.

I also would like to know whatis the prefered architecture between multiple wifi router, versus 1 wired router and multiple APs

Waiting for your adivses.
Thanks

If you have wired back haul, you won't be running a mesh.

How does this compute ?
Or is 10Gb the speed of the fiber, not the speed of the plan ?

How many devices (APs) are we talking about, anyway?

That's a truly smart doorbell, because neither does OpenWrt.

Just to make clear, you understand that "mesh" has nothing to do with roaming, it defines a wireless backhaul system, right? https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/wifi/mesh/mesh11sd

Sorry for my mistake, what I'd like to write was : "In my case I can't .."

Yes 10Gb is the speed of the fiber but in fact it depends on the fiber lenght. So I have only 150/200 Mb

I'd like to add have 3 APs

I always thought the speed limit was controlled by the hw where the fiber's terminating...

And where are you located, geographically?

I'm located in France

Then get three Zyxel T-56, 120€ + shipping, assuming you are using wired back haul, if not, you want tri band devices.
T-56s are just a PITA to flash

My bad, I sould have wirte : "In my case I can't attach..." so, I can't install a fast roaming network

My doorbell is a ring, it has nothing to do with openwrt you're right but it was to eliminate some incompatible harware.

An (probably) incomplete list of supported tri band devices "tri band" (triple interface) router list.

You're right I don't have a wired back haul so I need tri band devices.
I'm actually using a banana PI R3 which was also hard to flash..

Thanks; I'll take a look at it

How about building a mesh with 2 or 3 Linksys MX4200, do you think it's a good choice
I saw that only the snapshot version of openwrt is supported, so..
