Hello
I've been doing some experiments with meshing and wifi extender and notices a significant problem when enabling [802.11r Fast Transition] box in WiFi access point.
i.e. known guides like Mark's: DIY WI-FI MESH with OpenWrt recommends setting/using this knob - however when I've enabled it - initially it looked fine like the Mesh works, but only to the moment I wanted to ping between nodes inside the same Lan network.
Basically every outgoing IPv4 traffic was fine - but nodes could be pinged only from the router.
Laptop could ping the router AP and also the other meshed AP (mesh is not using 802.11r) - but no other device on this bridged Lan was reachable. Later on I've noticed that laptop T440s such (802.11r) WiFi AP was simply invisible and the laptop couldn't connect to the AP. And finally when just checking IPv6 usability it's also appeared to be somehow malfunctioning.
Disabling the usage of 802.11r likely fixed all the above mentioned problems.
As the main router AP was Dir-882 (ATM OpenWrt SNAPSHOT, r24930-0c45d2cfc6)
and as the mesh node AP Dir-2150 (OpenWrt 23.05.0, r23497-6637af95aa)
Although Dir-2150 doesn't look yet like fully officially supported by OpenWrt - the problem with 802.11r were still fully showing even when this configured mesh AP was completely dissabled.
Also I've checked configuration several times - so really the difference between working and non-working Mesh is the 802.11r.
Is the problem within HW of Dir-882 ?
Or is it the failure in OpenWrt software (but this makes me wonderig how the T440s was completely ignoring such AP)
Is there something better to play with which doesn't use 802.11r and enables smart flipping between 2.4G and 5G WiFi ?
