Memory Virtualization on 4/32 devices with usb storage?

Is there any support for memory virtualization to get a bit more out of severely limited routers?

8/64 is current minimum, most such spec devices will be supported in upcoming 24.10 , but no chance smaller devices are resurrected.

Hence why I'm asking if there's any support for virtualization. I'm asking about a feature not device support.

Bare minimum is to rebuild kernel with usb usb-storage , filesystem and swap driver, then you can use extroot for other modules like wifi or programs. Say device buffers will take RAM, YMMV, some people manage to make 4/32 trimmed-down build for dumb-ap scenario without USB.

But what about virtualization? Memory virtualization, where you use hard disk space as "virtual" RAM, to extend the RAM size, although at a lower speed of course.
It would be very beneficial since the 32mb of ram is a huge bottleneck.

It is called swap.

Thanks, I didn't know that was the same thing as virtualization
