Luci: Why does the "Network/DHCP & DNS" UI differs when accessing with IP instead of hostname

Firmware version: "OpenWrt 23.05.2 r23630-842932a63d / LuCI openwrt-23.05 branch git-24.346.66847-1bb28ba"
Browser: Firefox

When the Luci Web GUI is accessed with IP like "192.168.1.1", the "Network/DHCP & DNS" looks like this:

However when with the hostname like "openwert.lan", the things change:
"new user can only post one pic in new post.... see commnet below"

It looks like the "hostname version" is correct. and when accessed from a private tab, all looks fine.

What I have done to solve the problem:

  1. Clear browser cache/data on "192.168.1.1", not work
  2. Ctrl + F5 on "Network/DHCP & DNS" page, not work
  3. Disable all browser extension, not work

any ways to solve this?

Do you have more than one OpenWrt device on your network? The screenshots look like they're coming from two different devices.

This one is the only OpenWrt device.. I am sure about it.

ok... so from your computer, what do you get when you type in:

nslookup openwrt.lan

In the second picture you have a dnsmasq multi instances setup, and that doesn’t happen by itself.

This post smells a lot like “I am new here and I want to test you” bullshit, you have either two devices, or changed firmware or made different setups between the pictures just to test us.

this is the dns lookup result..

OK, I am not trolling really. This is the real problem I met yesterday. you can see the picture. only one device and the UI differs.

want more evidence?

I'm not able to reproduce this result you show.

  • Have you installed any extra packages?
  • Did you create/configure LAN_DSMQ and WLAN_DSMQ, or are you saying you have no clue where these appeared?

Not really.

It's not default OpenWrt and it clearly appears seems that these were created for the second screen shot.

Cool. So now we must figure out how.

Your browser's zoom levels differ between the screenshots. You (accidentally) changed your browser's zoom levels, and the browser remembers the zoom level per-host(name).

Yes, I did configure LAN_DSMQ and WLAN_DSMQ.

I am just wondering why the UI differs.

I got the problem because I was testing the IPv6 RA relay. So my desktop‘s DNS server sometimes is not "192.168.1.1"(systemd-resolved on my desktop changes the current DNS to the IPv6 Upstream DNS sometimes), so I can not resolve "openwrt.lan", So I just used the IP. I finally found the UI differs...

Yea, it's zoom then.

Use CTRL+0 to reset browser zoom. Let us know if this works.

I reset the zoom, it is still not the same.

It looks like some problems with the broswer i guess. the "IP access version" is using the cached data.

OK, tested it but not work..

Run

nslookup openwrt.lan 192.168.1.1

Cached data?

Maybe you just mistyped...

  • are you saying you've made changes between screenshots?
  • are you in a private browser window?

To be clear, it is not supported to alter configs from 2 different/concurrent LuCI instances.

I did not change between screenshots. I mean it could be that my browswer cached some old data of "old version openwrt" or something what.

Are you logged into both 192.168.1.1 and OpenWrt.lan - making changes and saving in both?

Can you actually test this - so no cache exists.

I am not in Private Windows when screenshot all the above pictures.

If “192.168.1.1” open in Private Windows, It looks like the same with “openwrt.lan"...

Your screenshot doesn't show the test...

Are you saying everything works in a private browser for both URLs?
