LuCI Attended Sysupgrade support thread

I’ve tried sysupgrade, owut, and most recently using
Attended SysUpgrade, but I consistently receive the following error:

Server response: Unsupported profiles: asus_rt-ac3200 & asus_rt-ac5300.
The requested profile was either dropped or never existed.

Both devices are running correctly, but Attended SysUpgrade reports the
profiles as unsupported.

Could these profiles please be added ?

Those profiles were apparently broken in -rc3, but are present in -rc4, so try the newer release candidate.

Since there’s no -rc5 available, I’ve performed a forced upgrade on both devices using owut , but the config’s still lost, issue#21655

Sysupgrade on bcm53xx never executes stage2 restore.
Verified by:

  • valid image
  • valid backup
  • no -n
  • overlay writable after reboot
  • system always boots as factory default
  • identical behaviour across SNAPSHOT and 25.12-rc

Apologies if this post does not belong in this thread.

The core issue is simply that configuration is never preserved on bcm53xx devices, regardless of how the upgrade is performed.

This applies equally to flashing via LuCI (Backup / Flash Firmware) as well as upgrades performed via LuCI Attended SysUpgrade, sysupgrade, or owut. Even when configuration preservation is explicitly requested and all required conditions are met, the system always boots with a factory-default configuration.

I assume this is a shared sysupgrade issue, not related to a specific frontend or tool.

If there is a more appropriate thread or tracker specifically for sysupgrade / configuration restore failures, please let me know and I will gladly move or repost this there.

Looks like package builds are having some cross-architecture issues? Looks like a bunch of architectures are seeing “Impossible package selection: missing (…core packages included…)” and at least for me ipq806x/generic looked OK, but qualcommax/ipq807x not so much.

I have been trying for some time (~2-3weeks) to upgrade my Banana Pi 3 to 24.0.x but I always get below message when using luci attended sysupgrade. I can generate a sysimage of 25.x sucessfully but do not want to directly upgrade from 23.x to 25.... Any ideas?

In 24.10, the nginx package was split into nginx-ssl and nginx-full, and there's no way to get it until you upgrade. So, probably "uninstall" nginx, upgrade and install nginx-ssl? (By uninstall, I mean take it out of the package list in Attended Sysupgrade's advanced mode on the build request page; see the Configuration tab first.)

Now that I'm looking at it, the 24.10 packaging is a mess. Most of this is wrong as those nginx-mod-* packages definitely do not provide the base package...

Those are the main firmware builds. The firmware builds are for each target, but the packages have their own buildbots on a per-architecture basis, so the cadence can differ quite a bit.

For example, contrast the contents of these two directories (some targets share arches, most subtargets for a given target have different architectures, so you need a roadmap to know what goes with what):

Looks like the problem is solved anyway, currently the firmware selector website throws out another error but this is probably temporarily:

Error: Impossible package selection: missing (libubox20260213)

This error will solve itself because f.i. owut states clearly

ERROR: Build failed with status 500 (--version-to SNAPSHOT --device rockchip/armv8:friendlyarm_nanopi-r5c:ext4)
The above errors are often due to the upgrade server lagging behind the
build server, first suggestion is to wait a while and try again.

Ok, removing nginx and adding nginx-ssl as well as nginx-mod-lua did the trick. Uprade succesful!

Arrg, that's a new one, possibly related to the apk issue, but I think it's something else. I'm seeing it on a couple of my tests this morning, so will have a look. In any case, the waiting continues... :joy:
