Same error occurs with Openwrt 25.12.0 rc2
edit: was able to do the upgrade with owut with the -S parameter set to a larger size, but you will lose your config so make a backup
@efahl FYI the issues with ASU may be related to
https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/issues/21611
(ubus call rpc-sys packagelist does not display all packages - the ones I noticed have PROVIDES).
EDIT: was a false alarm - my not realizing ubus call rpc-sys packagelist '{"all":true}' vs ubus call rpc-sys packagelist

x86 I presume? Did you follow the help links to https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/installation/sysupgrade.owut#expanding_root_file_system? Make sure to set the value in the config file as described there to avoid future issues.

Yes it's x86, and I have set the config option, thanks! I ended up going with a 3rd party build server and making my image 4gb in size.

I did Luci Attended Sysupgrade (keep settings enabled). On a GL.Inet AX-1800 (Flint)
from 25.12.0-rc2 to 25.12.0-rc3
It all works fine.
But now in Luci, the status page gives this error message in red:

fanat, it seems that your device has not enough memory. So i guess regular image flashing is the only option.
Your collection of packages looks quite reasonable to me. Not sure why it's suddenly too big, maybe one of the packages you're using got a lot bigger, or has more dependencies, or ???
Let's look at what you currently have installed that is big, run this command and report back:

Maybe a stupid question, but here we go:
Normally i did flashing GL.Inet AX1800 with uboot and the openwrt ubi image file.
Then configure settings and add extra packages.
My thought was, a clean system install. But much more work compared to Luci ASU.
But when doing Luci ASU, is that after flashing just as clean, of course with extra packages and settings included. Is it all in read only, or does it also use read/write (like what you have when you upgrade individual packages)
Or are their left overs in memory from previous firmware that is not used anymore.
Because if Luci ASu flashes firmware, then it logically has downloaded new firmware somewhere stored so it won't get overwritten with flash process.
In otherwords, is Luci ASU also a clean install (butthen with configuration and extra packages).

Yeah, that package no longer exists. It should not have been in your apk world, but apparently was included somehow. Just enable Advanced mode in Attended Sysupgrade (if you haven't already) and deselected it when the big package list comes up on the request page.
No, it's a clean install.
ASU works by taking your top-level package list (those with no dependencies) and running an imagebuilder for your device to create the new image. This is essentially the same as you installing the base image from the downloads site and then installing/deleting packages for your configuration, but with the benefit that everything is in the squashfs partition, so it uses a lot less flash and consequently does a lot less writing to flash.

since I'm having the same problem I wanted to make clear that this package is not required somehow?
I tried to uninstall it, but that triggered some mess:
It purged dnsmasq-full, luci-app-sqm and some iptables-nft stuff.
I could fix that again, but I re-installed kmod-nf-conntrack6 for that.
I'm currently running "SNAPSHOT - r32663-bd1cf1b18a (LuCI Master 26.015.62451~85d6259)" and I don't know what will happen if I leave it out in the package list...

Right, in your current installation, it exists and has "dependees", so you won't be able to actually uninstall it. In the version to which you are upgrading, it no longer exists, so once you've done a full upgrade, nothing will depend on it as the functionality has moved elsewhere.
The root cause of what you are seeing is that somehow kmod-nf-conntrack6 got into your /etc/apk/world file. The world file should only contain top-level packages, not things like kmods, so we're working around this by doing the dance on the LuCI Attended Sysupgrade request page to tell the upgrade code to just ignore that file ("removing" it there doesn't uninstall it, it just tells ASU to leave that package out of the build request).
