That's where my comment about upstream image builders not knowing what you've done on-device comes in. The imagebuilder builds a 100MB partition irrespective of those changes, there's no means for telling it to do otherwise except for the `rootfs_size' option in the config. (OpenWrt is an embedded Linux distro, so can't do all the fancy partition management that typical workstation or server distros do; there simply isn't "disk" and/or RAM space on 99% of the devices it supports.)
Whenever you see that big list of default packages listed, it's a sure sign that you hit the downloads server right in the middle of updating the build. I has been a few hours, so try again now, it should be finished with the file transfers...
Ok I'm screwed then. My root fs is littered with many , many failed installs of random installation scripts and downloads and my sloppy lack of accounting. LoL. There's no way I can ever get it down below 100. I'm just gonna forget about it for now and start clean when the next major update comes out. Thanks for the info I do appreciate it.
The rootfs_size option allows you to tell the imagebuilder to create a rootfs partition up to 1024 MB. Follow the link I provided above, and you won't have any issues with size.
Thanks man. I think I finally grasp when you have been telling me all along. Unfortunately I think this is above my paygrade. I can't seem to get the directions for root file system expansion work LoL. I'm sure it's my ignorance preventing me from completing this so it's not on you.
It's on me. I don't want to pollute the thread any longer with my lack of ability.
Bah, keep at it, you're almost there.![]()
Just ssh into the device and run these commands:
uci set attendedsysupgrade.owut=owut
uci set attendedsysupgrade.owut.rootfs_size=1024
uci commit
opkg update && opkg upgrade luci-app-attendedsysupgrade
Once those are done, the LuCI ASU upgrade should "just work." (You might see a "missing something 'get_bool' blah blah" on the main screen, but you can ignore that; it's annoying, but benign and will disappear after the upgrade.)
Just a word of caution here, the rootfs_size will set the (new) image size and gets written -in its entirety- on each sysupgrade, which takes time and causes unnecessary (flash-) wear, don't just extend it to the max if you don't need to (hint, additional partitions for mere data are almost always a better choice - especially as large 'config' data to be retained will cause failures).
Oh yes it worked! Well, not right away. I tried what you said and the upgrade process just kicked me back to the main status page, no errors. I figured maybe one of the servers was lagging or something. Went to bed. Got up and tried it this morning and it worked. I'm on 24.10.4
And am going to stick with a smaller FS size from now on. I have a hard drive for network storage.
Much Appreciated.
Is everything ok with ASU servers today? When I try to search for an image (mediatek/filogic), it loops at the following stage forever:
Everything else with the router is fine, e.g. being able to upgrade packages, and operate as normal.
Obviously have tried rebooting etc.
I think a server is down.
I get the following message when trying owut:

Yeah, it looks like something upstream from the ASU server. On my local server, which is completely independent of the official ASU server, but relies on downloads.openwrt.org, I have a bunch of similar timeout errors when running my owut test suite this morning.
Here's one from my logs, where the make-setup step is simply downloading the imagebuilder, so usually takes 10-20 seconds and make-manifest downloads the default packages, so again only 5-10 seconds...

I am having issues updating. Do I need to uninstall my ddns server? It worked without problems before.

Apologies for asking when the answer seems obvious, but am I really out of luck with Attended Sysupgrade if I have a critical package (4G modem support) from a third-party repo?
I get the “Error: Impossible package selection” with
* opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package luci-proto-xmm.
That usually means the package feeds were being updated while you were running your upgrade, so the actual packages and their index were momentarily out-of-sync. Try again now and see if it has fixed itself.
Well, not completely out of luck, but it's still a bit painful. You can upgrade by removing that package from the build list (turn on advanced mode in the Attended Sysupgrade -> Configuration tab), then "remove" that package. When you do the upgrade, it will leave that package out, then install everything else and restore your configuration. After reboot, just re-install the package and it should be good (any config it had will be retained).
Thank you <3 <3 <3
Yep, it fixed itself, I was able to upgrade.
